Musisi awarded for evicting Gen Sejusa

Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) Executive Director Jennifer Musisi has received a gold medal for courageously evicting former intelligence security coordinator Gen David Sejusa Munungu from a house in Kololo.

The house, which belongs to KCCA, was controversially given to Sejusa, formerly Tinyefuza, in March 2008, following a directive from the then Local Government minister, Kahinda Otafiire. On assuming office, Musisi put her foot down and Sejusa had to vacate. According to the local NGO Civil & Social Rights Awareness (CUSAR) Uganda, this is performance worthy of a gold medal.

Presenting the medal to Musisi at KCCA headquarters on Friday, Amon Muyunga Muwanga, the CUSAR executive director, also applauded Musisi’s efforts to evict the former Kampala Mayor Nasser Sebaggala from another Authority house on plot No.1 Ssezibwa road.

“Madam Executive Director, CUSAR is honouring you with this medal and a certificate for your standing work which also includes ensuring a healthy environment by making public toilets free, introducing Pioneer Easy buses and reducing congestion among other things,” Muwanga said.

Muwanga who was accompanied by CUSAR’s coordinator Mable Namatovu, asked Musisi to legalize the commercial sex work in the city.

“It brings income in form of taxes, jobs to those engaged in it and reduce crimes such as rape to women,” Muwanga said.

But Musisi did not accent to this particular request.

“I appreciate and I am encouraged by positive appreciations from all those who care for the development of this city but I hasten to add that I’m not comfortable with your request to legalize prostitutes in the same city because this practice is both illegal and morally not accepted in our society,” Musisi responded.

Not done, Muwanga requested that KCCA stops licensing night clubs and discotheques, noting that they deny the city dwellers their right to sleep. Musisi promised to look into the request.
