UNITA accuses electoral body of padding votes

Angola's main opposition party has accused the national electoral commission of padding the voters' list.
Abilio Kamalata Numa, a former official with UNITA, claimed the electoral body has already allotted 2,000 votes for the ruling party.

He said his party would hold countrywide demonstrations if the upcoming polls are not fair and may boycott the exercise given the alleged on-going malpractices.

“If until Wednesday, the national electoral commission does not guarantee that elections will be conducted fairly, our party will mobilise citizens to demonstrate”, VOA radio quoted Mr Numa as saying.
Angola's opposition parties have raised issues over the credibility of the country's upcoming August 31 vote - the third since independence.

The country does not hold a direct election for President but the leader of the party that wins the majority of parliamentary seats forms the government.
